HSB, VEIDEKKE and EINAR MATTSSON invest SEK 15 million in the development of Kvarnbacken in Jakobsberg
The engine of the Kalejdohill project, which is placing Järfälla firmly on the map in architecture, design and urban development, is local involvement combined with international inspiration. The location is Kvarnbacken in central Jakobsberg. The project started in December 2015, when Järfälla Municipality and HSB signed an agreement allocating land for 600-800 new homes.
The Kalejdohill Project, which will develop the Kvarnbacken site, is focusing on aspects of interest for those who live and work in Järfälla, long before completion of the housing. Residents and visitors will therefore be invited to participate in a dialogue based on experience – with installations and workshops, often with architecture, art and design as a starting point.
The project will run for two years and is funded through cooperation between HSB, Veidekke Bostad and Einar Mattsson – the three companies which will also develop housing around Kvarnbacken. In parallel with the project, Kalejdohill has initiated planning work and the project is expected to contribute with dialogue, inspiration and ideas until development work commences in 2018.
“Kvarnbacken is a fantastic location and it is in the most exciting municipality that one can be active in right now. But this is not just about housing, square metres and four walls. It is about life among the houses and how we as a residential developer can contribute to developing community interaction”, said Håkan Berg, CEO of HSB Northern Greater Stockholm.
The possibility of making the Kalejdohill Project activities permanent is also being considered – by looking at ways of establishing a new architecture and design centre in one of Sweden's most expansive municipalities.

Kalejdohill is centred at Kvarnbacken in central Jakobsbergsgatan to explore new forms of destination and site development – using architecture, art and design to engage locally and inspire globally. The project will run for two years and is funded through cooperation between HSB, Veidekke Bostad and Einar Mattsson. Within the framework of the Project, the possibility is also being considered of establishing a new architecture and design centre in Järfälla – one of Sweden's most expansive municipalities.
